Working with Templates: Using Internal IDs in Picklist Fields

ExtendInsights Data Management | Reference valid NetSuite values using internal IDs

Updated this week

ExtendInsights for Data Management (NetSuite) allows you to use NetSuite Internal IDs to reference valid values in picklist (list/record) fields, such as:

  • Entity (Customer, Vendor, Employee)

  • Location

  • Department

  • Class

  • G/L Account

  • Other list-based fields

This approach is especially useful for power users, large datasets, and scenarios where performance and accuracy are critical.

Why Use Internal IDs?

Using internal IDs can help you:

  • Avoid ambiguity when multiple values have similar names

  • Improve upload performance

  • Eliminate the need for name-based lookup

  • Ensure precise mapping for bulk updates

How to Use Internal IDs in ExtendInsights

To reference a picklist value by its internal ID:

  1. Enter the NetSuite internal ID in the Excel cell.

    Example

    • Picklist field: G/L Account

    • Internal ID: 567

  2. Wrap the value in double brackets:

[[567]]

When you upload the data:

  • ExtendInsights recognizes the value as an internal ID

  • NetSuite maps the field directly to the correct record

  • No text-based lookup is performed

Related Feature: Cell Operations (Picklists)

If you prefer not to work with internal IDs directly, ExtendInsights also supports Cell Operations (Picklists), which automatically resolve valid values for you.
