FAQ: How to Manage Records Using Multi-Select Fields

ExtendInsights Data Management | Create and update NetSuite records with multi-select fields

Updated yesterday

ExtendInsights Data Management supports NetSuite multi-select fields, allowing you to assign multiple values to a single field when creating or updating records from Excel.

This article explains the two supported methods for working with multi-select fields and when to use each.

What Are Multi-Select Fields?

Multi-select fields allow more than one value to be assigned to a field, such as (depending on the field setup):

  • Subsidiaries

  • Departments

  • Classes

  • Custom multi-select fields

ExtendInsights validates these values against NetSuite to ensure accuracy.

Supported Ways to Assign Multi-Select Values

You can assign multiple values using either of the following methods:

  1. Select from the Picklist panel

  2. Type values directly into the cell (Type-Ahead)

Method 1: Select Values from the Picklist

The picklist feature will come in handy; it is easy to use the scroll and check the box of the item you want to select from the list.

This is the recommended method for most users.

  1. Click the cell for the multi-select field.

  2. The Picklist panel opens automatically.

  3. Scroll or search for values.

  4. Check the box next to each value you want to assign.

The selected values will appear in the cell once applied.

Method 2: Type Values Directly into the Cell (Type-Ahead)

You can also enter values manually using a specific format.

Formatting Rules (Important)

  • All values must be entered in one cell

  • The entire value must be enclosed in double quotes (")

  • Each value must be separated by a comma

Example

To assign an account to multiple subsidiaries:

Account Name

Account Number

Subsidiaries

Checking Account

1000

"Alpha Division, Gamma Division"

Once ExtendInsights resolves the values:

  • NetSuite recognizes the entries

  • The values appear above the picklist panel

  • The record can be uploaded successfully

Summary

  • ExtendInsights supports multi-select fields for create and update operations

  • You can assign values using the picklist or type-ahead

  • Type-ahead values must be quoted and comma-separated

  • All values are validated against NetSuite
