Applies to: NetSuite OneWorld accounts where ExtendInsights Financial Reporting users connect through custom roles, including accounts that do not otherwise use Multiple Calendars.
ExtendInsights Financial Reporting requires access to fiscal calendar information when generating reports, running Quick Start queries, and calculating results with XAVI formulas.
NetSuite makes the Fiscal Calendars permission available for custom roles only when the Multiple Calendars feature is enabled.
This article covers two configurations:
Accounts that use Multiple Calendars and will keep the feature enabled.
Accounts that do not use Multiple Calendars but need to enable it temporarily to assign the required permission.
Known limitation: A permanent fix for custom-role access when Multiple Calendars is disabled is still in progress. The temporary enable-and-disable workaround is available only after the related ExtendInsights release is deployed.
Symptoms / Error Message
If Multiple Calendars is not enabled or the connected role does not have the required permission:
XAVI formulas do not return results.
An error notification appears in ExtendInsights.
Users may see one of the following messages:
An internal error occurred.Your connection lacks the required permission, or this feature is not enabled. Contact your NetSuite administrator.
The Fiscal Calendars permission does not appear when configuring the role.
Why This Happens
NetSuite exposes the Fiscal Calendars permission only when Multiple Calendars is enabled.
Enabling the feature does not automatically grant the permission to non-administrator roles. A NetSuite administrator must add it to each custom role used for an ExtendInsights connection.
For accounts that do not use Multiple Calendars, an administrator can temporarily enable the feature, assign the permission, and then disable the feature again.
đ How to Resolve the Issue
These steps must be completed by a NetSuite administrator.
Step 1: Enable Multiple Calendars
In NetSuite, go to Setup â Company â Enable Features.
Open the Accounting subtab.
Under Advanced Features, select Multiple Calendars.
Click Save.
Important: If your organization does not use Multiple Calendars, do not create a new fiscal calendar or assign one to a subsidiary. NetSuite may prevent the feature from being disabled after a new fiscal calendar is assigned.
Step 2: Grant the Fiscal Calendars Permission
Go to Setup â Users/Roles â Manage Roles.
Locate the role used for the ExtendInsights connection.
Click Edit.
Open Permissions â Lists.
In the Permission dropdown, select Fiscal Calendars.
Set the access level to View.
Click Add.
Click Save.
If Fiscal Calendars does not appear in the permission dropdown, confirm that Multiple Calendars was enabled and saved successfully.
Step 3: Test the Updated Role
Return to Excel.
Open ExtendInsights.
Reconnect using the updated NetSuite role.
Generate the affected financial report or run the Quick Start query.
Refresh the report or recalculate the XAVI formulas.
Confirm that the report or formulas return financial data without displaying the feature or permission error.
Step 4: Complete the Appropriate Configuration
Accounts That Use Multiple Calendars
Keep Multiple Calendars enabled. No additional configuration is required after assigning the Fiscal Calendars permission.
Accounts That Do Not Use Multiple Calendars
After confirming that the custom role can generate reports:
In NetSuite, go to Setup â Company â Enable Features.
Open the Accounting subtab.
Under Advanced Features, clear Multiple Calendars.
Click Save.
Return to ExtendInsights and test the report again.
The Fiscal Calendars permission remains assigned to the custom role, allowing ExtendInsights Financial Reporting to continue working after Multiple Calendars is disabled.
Verification
After completing the NetSuite configuration:
Return to Excel.
Open ExtendInsights.
Reconnect using the updated NetSuite role.
Refresh the report or recalculate the XAVI formulas.
The formulas should return financial data without displaying the feature or permission error.
Best Practices
This configuration applies to NetSuite OneWorld accounts that use multiple fiscal calendars.
The exact NetSuite permission name is Fiscal Calendars.
The permission is located under Permissions > Lists on the role record.
View access is sufficient for ExtendInsights Financial Reporting.
Make sure you update the same role the user selected for their ExtendInsights connection.
