ExtendInsights Data Management for NetSuite supports assigning additional subsidiaries to Customer records using the Customer Subsidiary Relationship record.
Use this process when a Customer already exists in NetSuite and needs to be associated with one or more additional subsidiaries.
Best Practice: Test the process with one Customer before uploading Customer–Subsidiary relationships in bulk.
Step 1: Verify the Customer–Subsidiary Relationship in NetSuite
Before creating your ExtendInsights template, confirm that you can access Customer–Subsidiary relationships in NetSuite.
NetSuite Admin or User
In NetSuite, review the Customer's existing subsidiary relationships from the applicable Subsidiaries subtab.
You can also go to:
Lists > Relationships > Customer Subsidiary Relationships
Then:
Filter the list for the Customer you want to work with.
Review the subsidiaries already associated with the Customer.
Confirm which additional subsidiaries need to be assigned.
This helps prevent creating relationships that already exist.
Step 2: Create a Customer Subsidiary Relationship Template
End User
Open Excel and launch ExtendInsights.
From a blank worksheet, select Create New Records.
Search for and select Customer Subsidiary Relationship.
Add the required fields to your template. At a minimum, include:
Entity - Identifies the Customer
Subsidiary - Identifies the subsidiary to associate with the Customer
Add any other fields required by your NetSuite configuration.
Click Continue and save the template.
Step 3: Test the Entity Lookup
Before uploading records, confirm that ExtendInsights can retrieve the Customer from the Entity field.
Select a cell under Entity.
Start typing the Customer name or open the picklist.
Search for and select the Customer.
If the Customer appears in the search results, continue with your test upload.
If you cannot find the Customer, confirm that your NetSuite role has access to the Customer and Customer Subsidiary Relationship records. Contact CloudExtend Support if you need additional assistance.
Step 4: Test with One Customer
Before performing a bulk upload, add one subsidiary relationship and confirm the result in NetSuite.
For example, if Test Customer is already associated with Subsidiary A and you want to add two more subsidiaries, prepare two rows:
Entity | Subsidiary |
Test Customer | Subsidiary B |
Test Customer | Subsidiary C |
Each row represents a separate Customer Subsidiary Relationship.
Make sure that the internal ID is the same as the existing one. Upload the rows to NetSuite.
After a successful upload, Test Customer is associated with:
Subsidiary A
Subsidiary B
Subsidiary C
Create New Customer–Subsidiary Relationships
After successfully testing one Customer, you can prepare additional relationships for upload.
Load your Customer Subsidiary Relationship template.
Enter or select the Customer in the Entity field.
Select the subsidiary you want to associate with the Customer.
Complete any other required fields.
Add a separate row for each additional Customer–Subsidiary relationship.
Upload the data to NetSuite.
For bulk assignments, repeat the Customer on multiple rows and select the appropriate subsidiary for each row.
Retrieve Existing Customer–Subsidiary Relationships
You can also use the template to retrieve existing Customer–Subsidiary relationships from NetSuite.
Load your Customer Subsidiary Relationship template.
Click Reload Records.
Enable Download Again.
Choose how you want to retrieve the records:
To retrieve all available relationships, click Download Results.
To retrieve a subset, enable Apply Filters and create a filter or use an available saved search.
Review the downloaded Customer–Subsidiary relationships in Excel.
Make the necessary changes to supported fields.
Upload the changes to NetSuite.
✅ Verification
After uploading, verify the Customer in NetSuite.
Open the Customer record.
Review its subsidiary relationships.
Confirm that each newly assigned subsidiary appears.
Confirm that no unintended or duplicate relationships were created.
For a bulk upload, validate a sample of the updated Customers before considering the upload complete.
💡 Best Practices
Test with one Customer before performing a bulk upload.
Use Customer Subsidiary Relationship rather than the Customer record when adding additional subsidiary relationships.
Use a separate row for each Customer–Subsidiary relationship.
Review existing relationships before uploading new ones to avoid duplicates.
If an Entity or Subsidiary does not appear in the ExtendInsights picklist, verify the user's NetSuite role and permissions before uploading.
