ExtendInsights Financial Reporting supports NetSuite Custom Segments, allowing you to filter financial reports using your organization's custom dimensions, such as Business Unit, Region, Project Code, or any other Custom Segment configured in NetSuite.
How you use a Custom Segment depends on whether you are:
Using an ExtendInsights prebuilt report, or
Building your own free-form report with XAVI formulas.
Supported Reports and Formulas
Custom Segments are currently supported in the following features.
Supported XAVI Formulas
XAVI.BALANCEXAVI.BALANCECURRENCYXAVI.TYPEBALANCEXAVI.NETINCOMEXAVI.RETAINEDEARNINGS
Supported Report Templates

Currently Not Supported
The following report types do not currently support custom segments:
Budget Reports
Balance Sheets
Use a Custom Segment in a Prebuilt Report
When you generate a supported prebuilt report, ExtendInsights places the Custom Segment in the report's designated filter area alongside the standard filters.
For example, the CFO Flash Report includes a Custom Segment filter that is referenced by the XAVI formulas throughout the report.
To change the Custom Segment:
Select the worksheet cell containing the Custom Segment.
Open the Custom Segment options from the ExtendInsights task pane.
Select the Custom Segment and applicable value or values.
The formulas in the report use the selected Custom Segment when the report recalculates.
Note: Prebuilt reports are examples designed to demonstrate what you can build with XAVI formulas. For reports you use regularly, use the prebuilt report as a starting point and build a version tailored to your organization's reporting requirements.
Use a Custom Segment in a Free-Form Report
When building your own report, you can place Custom Segments in worksheet cells and reference those cells from supported XAVI formulas.
For example, you can create a dedicated filter area for:
Subsidiary
Department
Location
Class
Accounting Book
Custom Segment
This allows you to change your report filters without rewriting individual formulas.
Step 1: Add a Custom Segment
Select the worksheet cell where you want to add the Custom Segment.
From the ExtendInsights task pane, select Custom Segment.
Select the Custom Segment you want to use.
Select the applicable segment value or values.
In this example, the Custom Segment filter is added to cell C3.
Step 2: Reference the Custom Segment in Your Formula
Reference the cell containing your Custom Segment as the Custom Segment argument in the XAVI formula.
Example
=XAVI.BALANCE($A5,H$2,H$3,$C$2,,,,,$C$3)
$A5 references the account, 4000.
H$2 and H$3 reference the reporting period.
$C$2 references the Subsidiary, EV Holdings Inc. (Consolidated).
$C$3 references the Custom Segment selection.
You can reference the same Custom Segment cell from multiple XAVI formulas. This allows you to change the Custom Segment selection without rewriting each formula.
Work with Filtered Custom Segments
Some custom segments depend on another selection before their values become available.
For example:
A Project segment may depend on the selected Subsidiary.
One Custom Segment may depend on the value selected for another Custom Segment.
When a dependency exists, ExtendInsights displays a Filtered by label.
Select the required parent or dependent value first. ExtendInsights then displays the Custom Segment values available for that selection
Best Practices
Keep Custom Segment selections in dedicated filter cells to make reports easier to maintain.
Use absolute cell references, such as
$C$3, when multiple formulas reference the same Custom Segment. If a Custom Segment does not appear, ask your NetSuite Administrator to confirm that your role has access to Custom Segments and the specific Custom Segment you need.
