Troubleshooting: Thread Autopilot Fails to Enable After an Email Is Associated

ExtendSync Google | Resolve Thread Autopilot errors when One-Time Sync succeeds

Thread Autopilot may fail to enable even though ExtendSync successfully associates the email with a NetSuite record using One-Time Sync.

This behavior can affect an individual user while Thread Autopilot continues to work normally for other users in the same organization.

Symptoms / Error Message

When enabling Thread Autopilot, the email is successfully associated with the selected NetSuite record, but ExtendSync displays the following error:

Email associated successfully but failed to enable Thread Autopilot

You may also notice:

  • One-Time Sync continues to work.

  • The email appears associated with the correct NetSuite record.

  • Thread Autopilot cannot be enabled.

  • Other users in the organization can use Thread Autopilot without an error.

Why This Happens

ExtendSync uses the CloudExtend Autopilot label in Gmail to manage Thread Autopilot.

This error occurs when the user's CloudExtend Autopilot label is missing or is no longer in the expected state.

Because One-Time Sync does not rely on the label in the same way, ExtendSync can successfully associate the email with NetSuite while failing to enable Thread Autopilot.

This is a user-specific configuration issue and does not indicate that organization-level Autopilot settings are disabled.

How to Resolve the Issue

End Users

  1. Open Gmail.

  2. Review the labels listed in the Gmail navigation panel.

  3. Look for the CloudExtend Autopilot label.

  4. If the label exists, retry enabling Thread Autopilot.

  5. If the label is missing, take a screenshot showing your Gmail label list.

  6. Contact CloudExtend Support and include:

    • The screenshot showing that the CloudExtend Autopilot label is missing.

    • A screenshot of the Thread Autopilot error, if available.

    • The email address of the affected user.

Do not manually create a new CloudExtend Autopilot label. CloudExtend Support must escalate the issue so the required backend configuration can be restored.

CloudExtend Support

If the CloudExtend Autopilot label is missing, escalate the case to the CloudExtend Engineering team for backend remediation.

Verification / What to Expect

After the backend configuration is restored:

  1. Confirm that the CloudExtend Autopilot label is available in Gmail.

  2. Open an email and associate it with the appropriate NetSuite record.

  3. Enable Thread Autopilot.

  4. Confirm that ExtendSync enables Thread Autopilot without displaying the error.

Best Practices

  • Do not delete or rename the CloudExtend Autopilot label in Gmail.

  • A successful One-Time Sync does not confirm that Thread Autopilot is configured correctly.

  • If only one user is affected, check that user's Gmail labels before troubleshooting organization-wide Autopilot settings.
