Working with Templates: Rearrange Fields in a Template

ExtendInsights Data Management | Reorder fields in the Template Builder

You can rearrange fields when building a new template or editing an existing one. This lets you match the template layout to your source data or workflow.

❌ Fields You Must NOT Rename or Reorder

To avoid breaking template behavior, do not rename, move, or reorder the following:

  • Column A – Reserved Status Column

    • Used by ExtendInsights to display success, warning, and error messages

  • Column B – Internal ID Column

    • Used to track NetSuite record identifiers

  • Row 1 (hidden mapping row)

    • Contains the field mapping between Excel and NetSuite

⚠️ Important:
Renaming, reordering, or editing any of the above can cause uploads or updates to fail.

How to Rearrange Fields (Drag and Drop)

When you’re in the Template Builder:

  1. Locate the field you want to move.

  2. Click and hold the field name.

  3. Drag and drop the field to its new position.

The new order appears when you load the template into Excel.

Reorder line-level fields

You can move sublist (line-level) fields outside their original group. This can help when you’re matching a flat file, copying data from another system, or organizing columns for an upload.

What this means

  • You are not restricted to keeping sublist fields grouped together.

  • You can arrange fields in the order that best matches your source data or preferred workflow.

This flexibility is especially helpful when:

  • Copying data from another system

  • Working with flat files

  • Preparing large uploads where column order matters

When entering data after rearranging fields:

  • Repeat header-level values on each line item.

  • Enter line-specific values on the corresponding rows.

  • Keep header values the same across rows that belong to one record. ExtendInsights uses the row structure to group lines into records; column order does not determine grouping.
