If you see a white screen or the page hangs before letting you enter your two-factor authentication code, you may be using an outdated browser engine that NetSuite no longer supports.
Below is an explanation of the issue, its causes, and how to resolve it.
Symptoms
When attempting to log into a CloudExtend application (Outlook or Excel) with NetSuite 2FA enabled, the login screen may:
Freeze or hang before displaying the 2FA prompt
Display a blank white screen
Prevent you from entering your verification code
This prevents successful authentication into NetSuite.
Causes
Microsoft Office add-ins (including CloudExtend) are rendered inside a browser engine chosen by Microsoft, not your default browser.
Which browser is used depends on your:
Windows operating system version, and
Microsoft Office version
Two major issues contribute to login hangs:
NetSuite discontinued support for Internet Explorer (2021.2)
Many older Windows/Office combinations render add-ins using:
Internet Explorer 11, or
Edge Legacy
NetSuite no longer supports these browsers, and they do not support the required modern JavaScript (ES6) needed by NetSuite’s login page.
This results in:
2FA page hanging
Blank screens
Failed authentication
Microsoft discontinued Internet Explorer and Edge Legacy
Microsoft now requires Office add-ins to use the modern, Chromium-based WebView2 engine.
However, your system may still be falling back to outdated engines if:
Office is not up to date
WebView2 Runtime is not installed
Necessary registry entries are missing
To fix this, WebView2 must be installed and enabled.
Workarounds
Step 1: Check Whether WebView2 Is Installed
On Windows:
Open Settings > Apps > Add or remove programs
Search for WebView2
If installed, you'll see Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime listed.
If not present, proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Update your Windows and Office
Most users resolve the issue simply by updating:
Windows (latest build)
Microsoft 365 Apps (latest version)
Starting with Office Version 16.0.13530.20424, WebView2 installs automatically (usually within 24 hours).
Step 3: Still No WebView2? Download & Install Manually
In case the issue persists even after the updates are installed, please download WebView2 and/or set it as the default rendering component.
📌 Users can download WebView2 from the Webview2 page on the Microsoft site.
Step 4: Admins Must Enable WebView2 via Registry (Some Tenants)
For organizations on certain Office update channels (Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel, etc.), IT Admins must manually enable WebView2.
Step 1: Add this registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\WEF\Win32WebView2
Set value to dword:00000001
If the WebView2 control is not installed (or the registry change is not made where needed), then add-ins in subscription desktop Office will run in either the older WebView control called EdgeHTML or just “WebView” (also known as “Spartan”), or the “Trident” WebView control that originated with Internet Explorer 11. For details, see Browsers used by Office Add-ins.

Step 5: If You’re Still Having Issues
If 2FA login continues to hang:
Try using Outlook Web or Excel Online, which always use modern browsers
