ExtendInsights | Learn about File Size Limits

Updated over a week ago

When using ExtendInsights, we strive to provide users with best experience possible. However, there are times issues may arise. One common challenge users face is the inability to open large workbooks in Microsoft Excel Online.

Microsoft has set a limit of 100MB for online workbooks to be opened in Excel Online. This means that any workbook larger than 100MB will not be able to be opened in Excel Online. This limitation is set by Microsoft and is not specific to ExtendInsights.

ExtendInsights users the Microsoft API to open and write to workbooks when searches are put on a schedule. If the workbook is larger than 100MB ExtendInsights will not be able to open the workbook to write to it (and you will also not be able to open the workbook online).

What can you do?

If you encounter this issue, there are a few options available to you:

  • Open the file with the Excel desktop app and run your search manually

  • Reduce the file size of your workbook

  • Create several searches that write data to the same folder and user PowerQuery to combine the data. Check out this article for more info.

  • Check the version history for the file and remove old unnecessary versions
