Schedule Refresh: Manage Microsoft Grant for Scheduling

ExtendInsights | Authorize Microsoft access for scheduled data refreshes

The Microsoft Grant for Scheduling authorizes ExtendInsights to refresh Excel workbooks on your behalf according to your configured schedules.

The first time you create a scheduled refresh, you'll be prompted to grant Microsoft access. Once consent is granted, the status changes to Active.

If access is later revoked or expires, scheduled refreshes will no longer run until the grant is restored.

Check Your Microsoft Grant Status

To view the current status:

  1. Open ExtendInsights.

  2. Go to Menu → Settings.

  3. Locate Microsoft Grant for Scheduling.

The status indicates whether ExtendInsights can perform scheduled refreshes.

Microsoft Grant Statuses

Status

Description

Active

Microsoft access has been granted. Scheduled refreshes can run normally.

Expired

The Microsoft grant is no longer valid. This may occur if the consent was revoked by a Microsoft 365 administrator or due to changes in your organization's security policies.

Not Granted

Microsoft consent has not yet been provided. You'll be prompted to grant access the first time you configure a scheduled refresh.

Regrant Access

If the status is Expired, you can restore access by reauthorizing your Microsoft account.

  1. Open Menu → Settings.

  2. Locate Microsoft Grant for Scheduling.

  3. Click Regrant Access.

  4. Sign in to your Microsoft account and complete the authorization process.

Once authorization is complete, the status changes to Active.

When Administrator Assistance Is Required

If you're unable to grant or regrant access:

  • Your Microsoft 365 administrator may have blocked user consent.

  • Your organization may require administrator approval for Microsoft applications.

  • Organizational security policies may have revoked the existing grant.

Contact your Microsoft 365 administrator if you're unable to complete the authorization process.

Verification

The configuration is complete when:

  • Microsoft Grant for Scheduling displays Active.

  • You can successfully create or manage scheduled refreshes.

  • Scheduled refreshes run at their configured times.

Notes

  • You only need to grant Microsoft access once unless it expires or is revoked.

  • Revoking the grant disables scheduled refreshes but does not remove your schedules.

  • Regranting access restores existing schedules; they do not need to be recreated.
