Working with Templates: Deleting Templates

ExtendInsights Data Management | Learn how to delete ExtendInsights templates

Updated this week

ExtendInsights Data Management allows you to delete templates you no longer need.

This article explains how to delete templates, what happens when a shared template is deleted.

⚠️ Important: Deletion Is Permanent

Deleting a template is a permanent action.

  • Deleted templates cannot be restored

  • There is no undo option

Before deleting a template especially a shared (organization) template, confirm it is no longer needed.

How to Delete a Template

  1. Go to Menu → Templates → NetSuite Templates.

  2. Hover over the template you want to delete.

  3. Click the three-dot menu (⋯).

  4. Select Delete.

The template is removed immediately.

What Happens When a Shared Template Is Deleted?

When a user creates a template and shares it with the organization, it becomes available for all users to use. However, there may be instances where a user decides to delete the template from their list. In this case, what happens to the template and its availability for other users?

🔵 If a shared template is deleted by its owner

When a user deletes a template they created and shared with the organization:

  • The template is deleted for all users

  • It is removed from Organization Templates

  • No users will be able to access it

💡 Recommendation:
In order to avoid losing important templates, we recommend that users communicate with each other before deleting any shared templates. This way, everyone can be aware of the changes and make necessary adjustments.

🔵 If a user creates a template and the user's license is deleted, does it remove the templates shared within the organization?

If a user’s ExtendInsights license is removed:

  • Templates they shared with the organization are not deleted

  • Other users can continue using those templates

Template availability is not affected by license removal.

Best Practices

  • Delete personal templates freely when no longer needed

  • Coordinate before deleting organization templates

  • Consider creating a copy of a shared template before deletion if it may be needed later
