Troubleshooting: Clear the Office Add-in Cache

ExtendInsights Apps | Resolve add-in loading, blank pane, or frozen pane issues

If the ExtendInsights task pane is blank, frozen, or fails to load, clearing the Office add-in cache forces Excel to download a fresh copy of the add-in.

Note: Clearing the Office add-in cache does not delete your Excel workbooks or data.

Windows

  1. Close Excel completely.

  2. Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.

  3. Type or paste the path below into the Run dialog and press Enter:
    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Wef\

  4. Back up the folder contents if needed, then delete everything inside the folder.

  5. Reopen Excel and launch the add-in again.

Mac

  1. Quit Excel completely.

  2. In Finder, press Command + Shift + G, or click Go → Go to Folder in the menu bar.

  3. Delete the contents of each of these two folders:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.Microsoft.OsfWebHost/Data/
    ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Excel/Data/Documents/wef/

  4. If neither folder above is present on your system, look for any folder beginning with com.microsoft.Office in the Containers directory and delete its contents.

  5. Reopen Excel and launch the add-in again.


Verification

The cache has been cleared successfully when the ExtendInsights add-in opens normally and the task pane loads without appearing blank or frozen.
