Troubleshooting: ExtendInsights add-in disappeared from my Excel ribbon. What should I do?

ExtendInsights Apps | Restore the ExtendInsights add-in in Microsoft Excel

If the ExtendInsights add-in no longer appears in Excel, it is usually caused by a loading issue, an Office update, or a Microsoft 365 deployment change. Follow the steps below to restore the add-in.

Symptoms

You may experience one or more of the following:

  • The ExtendInsights ribbon or task pane is missing.

  • The add-in no longer appears in Excel.

  • You cannot open ExtendInsights from Excel.

  • The add-in disappeared after an Office or Microsoft 365 update.

Why This Happens

The ExtendInsights Excel add-in is delivered through Microsoft AppSource (Microsoft 365). In some situations, Excel may stop loading the add-in due to:

  • A Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 update

  • A temporary Office add-in loading issue

  • A corrupted Office add-in cache

  • An organization-wide deployment or Microsoft 365 policy change

This behavior is related to Microsoft Office and is not specific to ExtendInsights.

How to Resolve the Issue

Step 1: Restart Excel

  1. Close all Excel windows.

  2. Wait approximately 30 seconds.

  3. Reopen Excel.

  4. Verify whether the ExtendInsights add-in has returned.

Many temporary loading issues are resolved by restarting Excel.

Step 2: Reinstall the Add-in

  1. Open Excel.

  2. Go to HomeAdd-insMore Add-ins.

  3. Search for your licensed ExtendInsights application, such as:

    • ExtendInsights Data Connector

    • ExtendInsights Financial Reporting

  4. Select Add to reinstall the add-in.

Step 3: Clear the Office Add-in Cache

If the add-in appears in Microsoft AppSource but still does not load correctly:

  1. Clear the Office add-in cache.

  2. Restart Excel.

  3. Reinstall the ExtendInsights add-in if prompted.

For detailed instructions, see Troubleshooting: Clear the Office Add-in Cache.

Step 4: Contact Your Administrator or Extend Support

If the add-in is missing for multiple users in your organization:

  • Contact your Microsoft 365 Administrator to verify the add-in deployment.

  • If the deployment appears correct, contact our Support for assistance.

Verification

The issue is resolved when:

  • The ExtendInsights add-in appears in Excel.

  • The ExtendInsights task pane opens successfully.

  • You can sign in and access your ExtendInsights features.

Best Practices

  • Keep Microsoft Office updated.

  • Close Excel completely before reinstalling the add-in.

  • If your organization centrally deploys Office add-ins, work with your Microsoft 365 Administrator before reinstalling.
