Some NetSuite field names may not be intuitive for all users. For example, when entering Vendor Bills, the NetSuite field Entity actually refers to the Vendor.
To make templates easier to use, you can rename column headers in Excel without affecting how data maps to NetSuite.
What You Can Rename (and What You Can’t)
✔️ You can rename:
Column headers in Row 2, starting from Column C onward
This is the visible header row used by end users
❌ You must NOT rename or reorder:
Column A – Reserved Status Column
Used by ExtendInsights to display success, warning, and error messages
Column B – Internal ID Column
Used to track NetSuite record identifiers
Row 1 (hidden mapping row)
Contains the field mapping between Excel and NetSuite
⚠️ Renaming, reordering, or editing any of the above can cause uploads or updates to fail.
How to Rename Column Headers Safely
Locate Row 2 in the ExtendInsights table (the header row).
Start renaming headers from Column C onward.
Click the header cell you want to rename (for example,
Entity).Enter a more user-friendly name (for example, Vendor Name).
⚠️ Important Notes
Renaming headers does not change how data is sent to NetSuite
Header name changes are not saved with the template
Reloading a template resets headers to the original NetSuite field names
Column order must be preserved for:
Column A (Reserved)
Column B (Internal ID)
