FAQ: Where Are Attachments Stored When Using Send from Outlook with ExtendDocs?

ExtendSync Outlook | Learn where attachments are stored when using Send from Outlook with ExtendDocs and Thread Autopilot

When you use Send from Outlook to send a NetSuite email, and ExtendDocs is enabled, the storage location of an attachment depends on whether it belongs to the initial email or a subsequent email in the thread.

How Attachment Storage Works

There are two different behaviors.

1. Attachments on the initial email

When you send an email from NetSuite using the Email Using CloudExtend button:

  • ExtendSync opens the email for sending through Outlook.

  • The initial email is saved to NetSuite.

  • Attachments included with the initial email are stored in the NetSuite File Cabinet.

This behavior applies even when ExtendDocs is enabled.

2. Attachments on subsequent emails in the thread

For Enterprise users with Thread Autopilot enabled, ExtendSync continues tracking the email conversation after the initial email is sent.

When subsequent emails or replies in the tracked thread contain attachments:

  • Thread Autopilot automatically processes the emails.

  • ExtendDocs stores the attachments in the configured OneDrive or SharePoint folder, based on your organization's ExtendDocs configuration.

  • The email continues to be associated with the applicable NetSuite record.

Best Practices

  • Send from Outlook and Thread Autopilot use different attachment-handling processes. Having ExtendDocs enabled does not move the initial outbound email's attachments to OneDrive or SharePoint.

  • Automatic attachment storage for subsequent emails requires the appropriate ExtendDocs configuration.

  • Thread Autopilot is available to ExtendSync Outlook Enterprise users.

  • The destination OneDrive or SharePoint folder depends on how ExtendDocs is configured for your organization.
