FAQ: Gmail Subtab (Deprecated)

ExtendSync Google | Why the Gmail subtab is no longer available

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

The Gmail subtab in NetSuite has been deprecated and is no longer available in the Current Version of ExtendSync for Google NetSuite.

This article explains why the Gmail subtab was removed, what changed with email and attachment storage, and what happens to existing emails and files.

What You’ll Notice

After upgrading to or using the Current Version of ExtendSync for Google:

  • Emails no longer appear in the Gmail subtab

  • Attachments are no longer duplicated to a CloudExtend Gmail custom record

  • The Gmail Compose button in NetSuite is not functional (unless you also have the legacy ExtendSync extension installed)

  • Emails and attachments appear only on NetSuite’s native Messages tab

This behavior is expected.

Prior to the release of the new version of ExtendSync for Google ExtendSync NetSuite messages were attached to two places, the native NetSuite messages tab in a custom record that was stored under the CloudExtend Gmail subtab. The primary benefit of using the Gmail subtab was to aid users in determining the origin of any file attachments since they did not appear on the native NetSuite messages tab.

Why the Gmail Subtab Was Deprecated

Before the Current Version, ExtendSync stored emails in two places:

  • The native NetSuite Messages tab

  • A custom CloudExtend Gmail record displayed under the Gmail subtab

The Gmail subtab existed primarily to show the origin of email attachments, which previously did not appear on the native Messages tab.

With the Current Version of ExtendSync for Google:

  • Email attachments now appear directly on the native Messages tab

  • Attachment origin is clearly visible

  • Duplicate storage is no longer necessary

As a result, the Gmail subtab became redundant and was deprecated.

The CloudExtend team is currently evaluating other options to bring this functionality back.

What will happen to the files on my Gmail sub-tab?

Your existing data is safe.

  • Emails and attachments previously shown on the Gmail subtab:

    • Are not deleted

    • Continue to exist unless ExtendSync is uninstalled globally by an admin

  • All emails also persist on the native Messages / Communication tab of the record

No action is required to retain historical data.
