Troubleshooting: Open with ExtendSync Icon Missing in Gmail

ExtendSync Google | How to display the Open with ExtendSync icon

Updated this week

If the “Open with ExtendSync” icon does not appear in Gmail when viewing an email, it is usually because Conversation View is turned off in Gmail.

ExtendSync relies on Conversation View to display the icon correctly.

Symptoms

You may notice one or more of the following:

  • The Open with ExtendSync icon does not appear in Gmail

  • ExtendSync works in the side panel, but the icon is missing from the email view

Why This Happens

When Conversation View is disabled, Gmail changes how messages are displayed.
This prevents ExtendSync from rendering the Open with ExtendSync icon.

How to Fix the Issue

Enable Conversation View in Gmail.

  1. Open Gmail then click the Settings (⚙️) icon.

  2. Scroll to the Email threading section, find Conversation View.

  3. Select Conversation View on.

  4. Click Save Changes.

  5. Reload Gmail.

✅ Verify the Fix

After reloading Gmail:

  • Open an email

  • Confirm the Open with ExtendSync icon now appears

If the icon is visible, the issue is resolved.

Additional Notes

  • Conversation View must remain enabled for the icon to display.

  • This is a Gmail setting and applies only to the individual user.

  • If you use multiple Gmail accounts, check the setting for the correct account.
